About Brown Box Organics
A Family Business - A Company History
Brown Box Organics Company was established 2006 in the Treasure Valley and it has been quite the journey to get here. Our family
resume actually begins in Washington State working with an organic farm and delivery service. We worked on an organic farm and
delivery service part time and in the meantime enjoyed a bounty of fresh foods and good health. In 2001 we were planning a move
to Redding California for continued education.
There we found a scattered array of organic farmers with little outlet for sales.
With the simple idea that pure and healthy food should be made available and convenient to everybody we began a local service
delivering organic produce from the organic farms to our customer's doorstep. That company, Country Organics, began
delivering fresh organic produce in July of 2002. In 2005 we were ready to move back home to Idaho and passed on Country Organics to a family that had been using our
service and shared our vision for healthy food. The Edmondson family are the current owner/operators of Country Organics have gone on to open a store front in addition to the weekly delivery service.
The decision to move back home to the Treasure Valley was an easy one. There was a significant need in the Boise area to unite the local farmers and provide a more convenient outlet for consumers to obtain healthy food. Plans for Brown Box Organics began in December 2005.
Our new venture, Brown Box Organics Company, was named after our family name and our signature brown boxes. We began delivery in July 2006. Today we continue to strive to help make pure foods a part of everyday life for your family and ours. Our hope
is that you'll begin to enjoy not only the best in healthy produce and natural foods, but enjoy improved health and quality of life as well.

My Story of Transition - A Personal History
Farms across the globe are transitioning to organic. In order to make this transition the land must be made healthier through healthy life building techniques (usually umbrella'd under terms like organic farming or sustainable farming). This transition usually takes at least five years
and during that time the produce sold must be labeled as non-organic or transitional. There is no rushing this process of building up the soils nutrients and allowing the past damage to be washed and worn away. Although we don't currently purchase any transitional produce we have supported
farms though out the process in the past. We would usually only consider this in cases where the land was already sustainably farmed, but the farmers decided to go for the organic label because growth in production. Although transition is an important cause as the health of individuals is
the real goal for BBOC. That is why we buy from CertifiedOrganic farms.
I have found that like contaminated soil transitions to healthy growing soil over time, so has my own diet slowly changed and my health improved. I first discovered the life changing health benefits of eating organic over a decade ago. Raised in the city, most of the food I ate growing
up was conventionally grown and purchased from the local super market. I thought very little about where it came from. I assumed, as many people do that the bright and shiny exterior of the produce in each aisle was both nutritious and safe. When I struggled with many health problems in
my 20's I thought it was normal and chalked it up to bad genes. Many of the people I worked with had equal, if different, health difficulties that they dealt with daily. We were all treating our symptoms with medications and failing to question how we might help the problems behind
the suffering.
Through our church, I met a great family and we became fast friends. This family worked an organic farm. Their way of life was new to me. I enjoyed the peaceful noises of their family farm and watching things grow. When they asked us to help out part time we were excited for the opportunity.
Naturally we began purchasing produce from them since we were on the farm working weekly and they were our friends.
After about two months most of my health problems began fading. I cancelled my plans to have a tonsillectomy surgery hoping that this good luck would continue. After several more months it dawned on me that I felt well. Nothing was hurting and I didn't feel run down and tired. I was able to
stop taking all of my prescription medications. My constant struggle with extra weight had seemingly regulated itself. A few months later I received the most surprising news that we were expecting our first baby! I continued to ponder this marked change as my good health continued and began
researching organic food and health with emphasis on children.
It was over several months that I realized that the only thing that had really changed to affect health was my diet. We had transitioned to all organic produce and were eating more fresh foods than ever before. We were also adding organic staple foods little by little. When this realization
fully sank in, I dove head first in to learning why organic foods are different and how I could share the treasure of good health with others. Our organic passion had begun and our family has been thankful for good health for many years.
Since our early days enjoying organic food and I have had the opportunity to learn from several Naturopathic Doctors, farmers and health experts. The more I learn the more I am encouraged that we can accomplish a lot by way of healing and prevention through diet. Although I don't believe that
eating organic is a "cure all" we do believe that "you are what you eat" and that organic foods should be a part of a healthy diet. Organic food has changed my life and I would love to hear how it has changed your life as well!
Best Wishes,
